How To Answer the Listening Section in TOEFL

Listening Comprehension Test consists of 50 questions, divided into three sections. Section A = 30 questions, section B = 8 questions and section C = 12 questions.

            Listening section A form of short dialogue or conversation between two people (the first person to ask and the second person to answer). A narrator will make the questions based on conversation between the first person and the second person. Every conversation followed by a question. You are only get time for 12 seconds to answer each question.

Listening section B consists of two long conversations and followed by several questions (usually 4 questions in one conversation),

Listening section c consists of 3 talk is like a teacher who explaining a particular topic followed by a few questions, usually 4 questions in one talk. Part C is considered the most difficult in the listening test session.

The following I will describe in more detail how to answer the listening questions and I will give an example

Part A: Short Dialogue

a.       There must be no blank answers. Wrong answer will not reduce the score

b.      Keep in mind that the correct answer is a re-statement with a different editor.

c.       Focus on the second person that you listen at the time the brief conversation. In generally, there is an answer to what was said by the second person.

d.      You still possible to answer correctly even you can not understand dialogue perfectly. And if you do not understand at all what you hear, pick the answer that sounds most different.

e.       If you have finished to answer the first number, look at the answer choices for the next number. This will make you better prepared.

Example :

You Listen:

Men: Hay Sukma, how are you? You look weak.

Woman: Yes you're right, I felt dizzy today.

Narrator: What happened to her?

In the test book, you read:

(A) She was pleased.

(B) She feels sad.

(C) She looks more bloated.

(D) She felt dizzy.

The correct answer is D.

Section B : Long Conversation

a.       In generally the correct answer has the same sound.

b.      Note / listen to the conversation at the beginning because it contains the topics. The topics often asked.

c.       At the time you listening, read also the answer choices in the book at the same time. Because the answers are arranged in order.

Example :

You Listen :

Narrator : questions 1 to 4 . Listening to a conversation between two people who have finished watching the movie theaters .

Woman: Wow Jacob , it was a good movie

Man : yes you're right Sukma . it is the best comedy movie of the year .

Women : yes very funny movie

Men : do you want to go watch the movie again with me this weekend?

Women : of course . I want to go with you , I will not forget

( A ) about the movie

( B ) about their relationship

( C ) about school subjects

( D ) about food

The correct answer is A

Narrator : What kind of movies they watch ?

( A ) ghost movie

( D ) sad movie

The correct answer is C

( 3 )

Narrator : What do they plan ?

( A ) they will re-watch a movie together

( B ) they are not friends anymore

( C ) they want to eat popcorn

( D ) they will burn the cinema

The correct answer is A

( 4 )

Narrator : Who is the woman who spoke with Jecob ?

( A ) Fanny

( B ) Ferry

( C ) Mufi

( D ) Sukma

The correct answer is D

Section C : Talk

a.       Guess what topics and questions.

b.      Because the topic is often asked once, so listen to the conversation at the beginning because it contains topics.

c.       Answer arranged in sequence, so when you listen, read also the answer choices at the same time.

d.      The correct answer usually has the same sound.

e.       There must be no blank answers.
